Brendan, who attracted the attention of audiences through his shirtless scene in the movie, was interested in acting right from his childhood. After his high school, he thought about pursuing his career in comedy but his father insisted him for further study, and thus, he earned a degree in Accounting from Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.

Later, as his confusion regarding the future increased, his father encouraged him to try on an acting career. Penny worked at a restaurant for some time and managed a one-way ticket from Ottawa to Vancouver. At Vancouver, he got to meet the established Canadian actors, Erin Karpluk and Kevin Durand who helped him study in acting school.
In 2003, he started his acting career as a guest role on Jake 2.0. Afterward, he played various roles in The L Word, Kyle XY, Smallville, Whistler, The Assistants, Held Hostage, Ring of Fire and many more. His most noteworthy role was in the award-winning drama series Motive where he played the role of Detective Brian Lucas.
Recently, on 23 November 2018, Brendan's new movie Pride, Prejudice and Mistletoe was released in Hallmark Channel where he portrayed the role of Luke. On the day of the premiere of the movie, he even shared a picture of him with his co-star, Lacey Chabert.

Brendan might not have featured in headlines with his relationship whereabouts, but he does have an adorable family who means everything to him.
Although he hasn't given many details about his better- half, his post on twitter makes it clear that he has been married to a wife for more than seven years. On August 2017, Brendan wrote a tweet wishing seven years anniversary to his wife and made his excitement apparent.

Well, the family doesn't consist of Brendan and his spouse only, the couple has two wonderful kids who are often seen on his Instagram account. He even doesn't hesitate to claim his small family as a "Number One Crew."
Recently, on 12 June 2018, he took the photo of his cute son and wished him his fourth birthday. He is very close to his kids and often posts the activity he does with them on Instagram. For instance, he posted a pair of earrings on Instagram and mentioned that he bought a present for his daughter cause she wanted to have earrings after seeing a picture of her father with earrings when he was seventeen years of age. Though he spends quality time with his kids, he has not yet revealed the identity of his wife.
