The player began his career in the major league after being drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1983 MLB Draft and joined the club in 1987 as a September call-up. After a disappointing run, the club sent him to other teams to learn to play the outfield. He returned to a form soon after and won the National League Comeback Player of the Year. 

His best performance and stats came with the while stealing 33 bases in 1990 qualifying for the 30-30 club. After being released from Atlanta Braves following the accident, he played with the clubs like Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies among many others and eventually ended his career with Oakland Athletics. He is currently a co-host of Good Day Atlanta on WAGA-TV.
