Born on December 25, 1962, in Chicago she attended from Lindblom Technical High School and graduated in 1980. She attended the University of IIIionois at Champaign- Urbana earned B.S in Psychology and Biology and graduated from there.

Within 2004 and 2005 she got the Thurgood Marshall Award. She received "Sisters in the Spirit" Award which is also a religious award in 2005. In 2008, she became the winner of NABJ Salute to Excellence International. She also received CABJ award for the coverage of the Million Man March.
She started her broadcasting career in 1989 at WGN-TV in Chicago. After a year she worked as a reporter at WMBD-TV in Peoria, IIIinois. She worked as an anchor at KWCH-DT within 1990 to 1992. Furthermore, she also became a part of WLS-TV as weekend co-anchor and reporter in 1992. Prior commencing her career in broadcasting, she was busy in working on television. She was a contestant on Star Search and worked on Romper Room. She was also a host of TV show Simply Elegant. She has not disclosed her net worth in the media. But, some sites have only estimated her net worth at $30 million dollars which may or may not be true. It is obvious she is getting outstanding salary and well praised by her colleagues.
