The outdoorsy man was born with unmatchable qualities. The determined person lives along with his wife Edna in the wilderness.
His family is the only permanent residents of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. They hunt and live off the meat and survive with few available resources. He and his family caught the public eye when he began the titular figure in James Campbell’s book The Final Frontiersman: Heimo Korth and His Family, Alone in Alaska’s Arctic Wilderness in 2004. He also appeared in the documentary titled Surviving Alone in Alaska showing his hard lifestyle. Then the survivalist also featured in PBS’s “Braving Alaska” in 1992.

The couple is a parent to four daughters named Coleen, Millie, Rhonda, and Krin. Millie is the step daughter of Heimo from the previous marriage of Edna. When Heimo convinced Edna to live far away from civilization he would have never thought the tragedy was coming their way.
Coleen Ann Korth was born on 29th May 1982 after the Coleen River. But five days after the second birthday, the infant was the victim of canoeing accident in 3rd June 1984 where she lost her life and more painfully her body was never recovered.
After Coleen’s death, many friends and family tried to pursue him out of Alaska, but it was never an option for him. The death of his daughter made him more ambitious and set the target that he won’t let the loss of their daughter in vain. The survivalist and his wife filed a petition to designate an unnamed peak in the memory of Coleen. But the board refused the proposal as they cited that Coleen was not a historical figure.
After, multiple failed attempts to pass the petition, the couple gave up and now Coleen lives in the memory of her parents, and her impression overlooks the valley and Coleen river through her memorial cross made by Heimo and Edna.
The incident that ever-lasting impact on the couple and they decided to raise their three daughters out of the wilderness. Now fully grown up daughters occasionally visit the Last Alaskan and share few weeks with them.
