American actress with Down Syndrome Jamie Brewer is well known for her role as Adelaide in horror-thriller American Horror Story (2011). She has also won the ‘NY Drama Desk Award 2018’ for the ‘Best Featured Actress in a Play’ for her role in Amy and The Orphans.
Jamie was interested in performing arts since her childhood. She never let her disability to come in between her and her dreams. She kept chasing her passion and showcased her talent to the world. Now, she is an inspiration to many.
Career and Education
Jamie took theater classes at a ‘College for Kids’ class during her middle school. She also had training at ‘Dionysus Theater’ and ‘The Groundlings Theater and School.’ Furthermore, she attended the Ruskin School of Acting and Howard Fine Acting School to polish her acting skills.
Jamie started her career acting from theatres in 1999. She portrayed the wife of ‘Doctor Doolittle’ in a stage production when she was in eighth grade. Later, she made her acting debut on the big screen in 2011 from American Horror Story. She portrayed the role of a disabled but sly and clever woman in the first season (2011); an enigmatic young witch on the third season(2013); voiced and played living ventriloquist doll Majoris in fourth (2014) and a cult member in the seventh season (2017), respectively.
Besides that, Jamie was also featured in the NBC crime-series Southland (2013), Raymond & Lane (2015), Kill Off (2017), and Turnover (2019).
Alongside acting, she is also a model. She walked down the runway in the New York Fashion Week on 12 February 2015 in Carrie Hammer’s “Roles Model Not Runway Models” campaign and became the first model with Down Syndrome to pull such feat.

- Jamie was named the youngest president ever to be elected as a non-profit organization, The Arc (now renamed to ‘The Arc of Fort Bend County’). She was only 18 at that time. She later joined ‘The Arc of Texas Government Affairs Committee’ and worked with state lawmakers to ban the use of words such as ‘retard,’ ‘retardation’ and ‘ retarded’ in Texas.
- She has been an active participant in non-profit organizations like BTAP, DSALA, Easterseals, the National Down Syndrome Congress, and the American Association of People With Disabilities.
- She is left-handed.
- She also has spoken in PSA’s for the “Souper Bowl” of ‘Caring Houston Food Drive’ for two years in a row, which aired on ABC, CBS, and NBC.
- Jamie's father's birthday falls on 18 June. She prefers to call her dad as 'BUB.'
