The TV presenter had health issues and was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), indolent cancer of the lymphatic system. In the early days of 2002, doctors discovered a low-grade NHL. However, after undergoing multiple chemotherapy sessions, he went against suggestions and stopped medications. He said that the treatment made him feel sick.
In spite of doctors warning, he takes his illness as a matter and joke and time again said that he wishes to get hit by a bus before lymphoma. His struggle with well-being is not new, as he recovered from the growth in his bladder. He also had issues with kidney stones in the past. However, he now says that he drinks a lot of water and involves himself in physical activity as well.
He had also undergone the prostate enlargement operation in 2003. He said that his partner, Irene Clarke took the diagnosis of his NHL well and supported his demeanor. He and his production assistant love assistant are together ever since 1994 and raise five children from his previous marriage. He was actually the father of six children but, he lost his eldest son Greg of cancer at the age of 29 in 1989.
His deceased son, Greg and other son Richard was born to his first wife Dian Sessions, with whom he married in 1957. After relishing time for four years, the former couple ended their relationship in divorce.
Just a year later, he shared wedding vows with TV scriptwriter Ann in 1962. Together, the pair welcomed twin kids, Edward and Jane. After five years of matrimony, the duo got separated in 1967.

Following his split with Ann, he tied the knot with Elizabeth Power on 23 July 1977. Elizabeth was an actress and had her career on repertory theatre and West End musicals, with whom Michael had two children namely; Patrick and Daniel.
