Sean Paul was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1973 and he celebrates his birthday on 9th of January every year. He belongs to the mixed ethnicity (his parents had Portuguese, Chinese, and Jamaican forebears ) and holds Jamaican nationality. He was born to the family who was known as the swimmers of the time. His father played water polo championship in 1969 whereas his mother was also a butterfly swimmer and a painter. 

He pursued his education in Wolmer's Boys' School and the College of Arts, Science, and Technology, known as the University of Technology where he was trained in commerce to pursue an occupation in swimming.
