Her father was a military policeman who broke up with her mother before Sharon's birth. Later, her mother got married to Elmer Manankil. Her parents have two kids including Sharon and her younger sister named Kristina Manankil.

As she moved to the Philippines with her parents in her early age, Sharon pursued her primary education there. She earned her graduate degree in 1990 from Roosevelt School of the Arts, which is located in Fresno, California.
