Many Asian Americans have achieved great height in international media for their works. Sophia Choi is a well-known name for her valiant reporting and anchoring in one of the most reliable news channels. Named as ‘Most poised news anchor’ in the list of ‘100 favorite American Asian people, places, things’, Choi has proven herself to be a hero.
Childhood and Education:
Sophia Choi moved to the U.S at the age of 7, attended Hollywood Elementary School in Hollywood, Maryland. As a child, she played Alto Saxophone and won a scholarship in Tidewater Music Festival in Maryland. Her family always appreciated her interest in playing the instrument. She then moved to Memphis, Tennessee at 12 after her father’s death where she attended Briarcrest Baptist High School. She completed her University education in Bachelors in Journalism from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri.
Career and Progression:
After working at the University’s television and radio station, she started her career VA as a general assignment reporter at WSET-TV, the ABC affiliate in Lynchburg. Choi then worked as an anchor. Her reporting “Dirty downloading” lead her to an Emmy Award nomination. She also won the Associated Press award.
Choi worked her way to becoming a Primetime CNN headline news anchor. In 2006, she left the CNN Headline News and traveled to Shanghai, China with the University of Missouri school of Journalism on a speaking tour. Choi then joined KVBC-TV in 2007. In 2010, as KVBC-TV didn't renew her contract. She started working at WSB-TV as an anchor and reporter.
She had acted in the direction of famed Mike Nichols before he passed away. She was in the movie ‘Primary Colors’ with John Travolta, Emma Thompson, Kathy Bates and Billy Bob Thornton. She also played in ‘Special unit2’ and ‘The torture.'
It is easy for anyone to guess that her busy career may have kept her from managing a lot of time for her husband.
Personal Life and Interest:
Choi’s parents met in South Korea. He worked as a radar specialist for U.S government. In an interview with Alison Glock, she mentioned that she loves cooking though her family wasn’t a cooking family. Her mom golfed instead. Choi was in Cooking Light Magazine with Turkey Chili and Man-Delite cake. In the same interview, she also shared her cooking experiences with her mother in law as a married woman.
According to a wiki, Choi is apparently single. Sophia Choi also has a soft corner for animals.
