Steve began his career as a wrestler for Skyview High School in Billings, Montana. While he was there, the wrestling coach of Skyview High School, Rich Malia, encouraged Steve to be involved in automotive work as he saw some engineering knowledge in Steve.
Also, Rich asked Steve to make a bicycle for his daughter instead of buying from a shop. So, it was the first job for Steve as a builder.
