Personal Life
David has been married to his wife Susan Landau since 1979. His wife, who is an immigrant, is a co-founder of the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy which was established in 1999.
The lovely couple first met when they were at the University of Chicago when she was just a business student. The couple has three children together, Lauren, a daughter, and his two sons Michael Ethan Axelrod.

Their first child, Lauren, was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was just seven months old. Back in time when Lauren had epilepsy, David and Susan rushed her to the hospital where they stayed for a month where doctors were unable to stop Lauren's seizures. Lauren suffered over twenty-five seizures a day despite the numerous drug trials, special diets, and experimental therapies. Later, she went under the risky surgical treatment where holes were drilled over her skull to implant the electrodes for reducing the seizures. However, the treatment failed.
Later, Lauren improved over the years and had gotten better ever since.
Currently, David and Susan live together, and they have no records of being married before or is the couple plans on getting divorced. The happy couple has been living happily and is more concentrated on their work, keeping themselves busy. Also, his tweet on 16 March 2019 about his wife is proof that he still mainatains healthy relationship with his wife.
