Born on 16 December 1966, Dennis Wise, is a retired English football player, manager and former executive director of Newcastle United.
In his more than 20 years of career from 1985 to 2006, Dennis prominently played as the central midfielder for clubs like Wimbledon, Leicester City, Millwall, Southampton, Coventry City, and Chelsea.
He became Chelsea’s record signing switch when they paid £1.6 million for him in 1990. During his period at Chelsea, he won two FA Cups, a League Cup, and a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. That's why Chelsea fans still remember him as one of its beloved legends.

After retirement from his playing career, he slowly became involved in the managerial aspects of football. He started at Millwall as a player-manager leading them to the FA Cup final and European football for the first time in 2004. He then worked for various clubs in the managerial positions until he worked for Newcastle United as the executive director till 1st April 2009. His main job there was to scout new players and develop the new academy.
International Career
Dennis has devoted his whole life to football, but he is only remembered for his staggering 595 appearances and critical 95 goals in the English League, while his international career remains overlooked as he couldn't achieve the same feat.
He made his international debut with England on 1 May 1991. He managed to score against Turkey, which became the only goal scored throughout the game leading England to 1-0 victory.
Although Dennis was expected to be in the squad due to his excellent performance in his debut game and good season with Chelsea, surprisingly Dennis did not make the cut for the 1996 European Championships.
Similarly, in 1998 despite leading his team to victories in the 1998 Football League Cup Final and the 1998 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final, former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle denied him the opportunity to be placed in the England squad. However, Dennis received his chance to play Internationally again in 1999 against Belgium and Argentina on 23 February 2000. His final international game came in the World Cup qualifying match against Finland on 11 October 2000 which ended in a 0-0 draw.
At the end of his international journey, he made over 25 appearances and scored a total of 2 goals, which was not enough to leave a mark in his career.
