Michael Wekerle went through a deep depression after his second wife, Lea-Anne passed away at the age of 39 in 2010. After the death of his wife, he began to drink heavily. Not only that, his behavior became increasingly erratic over the next several months.

He left his Vice Chairman position from Griffiths McBurney and Partners (GMP) in 2011. But he rediscovered his true self and founded the merchant company, Difference Capital in 2012.

He and his late wife, Lea-Anne are the parents of four kids; twin sons, and two daughters.

Michael met her in 1997. At that time, she was working as the head of sales at the rival firm, Thomson Kernaghan. A week after their first meeting, the couple started dating and also went for dinner, while the Canadian Merchant was still married to his first wife, Patricia.

He divorced Patricia in 2000 to marry Lea-Anne at the same year. Patricia and Michael were high school sweethearts and got married in 1989. After welcoming a daughter and 11 years of married life, the pair parted ways.

Son of Anthony Wekerle and Hermine Wekerle, Michael Wekerle grew up along with his three siblings sisters named Carolyn, Christine, and Caron. His family has Old World finance roots, as one of the members in his family was finance minister of Hungary and prime minister around the 20th century.

Michael's father was a chemist and also was an import-export businessman. As per, he said that his father was an inspiration to him and his sisters. His dad had the knowledge of commerce and wealthy person in Europe, however, Anthony let his kids start their career from ground zero level without his help.
