He claimed that the outfit was approved by the BET honchos, and he even agreed to change to the more masculine look, but he was never allowed to do so.

BET representatives claimed that he had garments and outfits, which weren't pre-approved. She subsequently sued BET, and its parent company Viacom for gender-based discrimination and demanded public apology along with $2.5 million in damage.
After the controversial events, TMZ revealed that BET executives had exchanged emails before the event and wanted B. Scott to look more manly. However, in 2014, the Los Angeles Superior Court ruled the judgment in favor of BET awards on the grounds of the first amendment right. The representative of B. Scott then showed his displeasure to the decision and opened that they will appeal the court's decision.
In February 2015, Scott and BET reached a settlement over the controversy, but the terms of the settlement never came out in public.
