Kristie was even active during the Hong Kong extradition bill protests, North Korea’s advancing weapons tests, New Zealand terror attacks and the aftermath of the major storms in HK.

Kristie was born on 7 December 1974 in Philadelphia; however, she was raised in Silicon Valley. She is the daughter of a Europian-American father and her mother is Taiwanese. The TV journalist also has a sister in her mixed-ethnic family.

As for her education, Kristie attended Stanford University and got a graduate with a Master’s in Communication in 1997. Later in the 1990s, she moved to China and studied advanced Pitonghua at Beijing’s Tsinghua University.

Career Journey

Growing up, Kristie had the desire to be a journalist. At the time, she was 17 and an undergraduate at Stanford University. As an undergraduate, she even worked for The Stanford Daily newspaper as well as for KZSU. Also, she did the job of freelancing for 10 cents a word.

Later, in 1996, she began her first official job at Wired magazine as an editorial intern. And, she later moved to China where she worked at an internet site called Sohu alongside her academics at Beijing’s Tsinghua University.

Long-time after working in Sohu, in 2000, Kristie gave a speech about the internet in China at the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents' Club, where a senior producer of American new- based channel, CNN was present. He asked her to be a guest and offered him a career in television. In 2001, she appeared as a television and dotcom reporter for the news channel, CNN.
